Introducing Change

There are a number of motivations for change : exciting new visions of the future, discontent at the status quo, external factors forcing an organisation to reassess its practices and so on. However, change can be unsettling - as humans, many of us have a preference for little change, or at least only that which we ourselves decide to introduce into our environment.  Therefore introducing change into Christian organisations or churches can be a challenge to Christian leaders.

We offer a six step model to help Christian leaders successfully introducing change to a church or Christian organisation. Although based on material used by leading commercial organisations, the content has been carefully selected to ensure that it is appropriate for use within a Christian context.  This is relatively simple - the important thing is to think carefully, and be aware of side-effects of the change.

Click on each step in turn to explore it in more detail, or work through them in turn using the links at the bottom of each step.

Step 1 : Defining a vision for change : what is the desired change you want to introduce?
Step 2 : Forming a change team : gathering the right group of people to work on the change process.
Step 3 : Change strategies : key decisions about timescale and extent of consultation.
Step 4 : Implementing the Change : some simple tools and resources on project management
Step 5 : Other considerations : avoiding unforeseen side-effects.
Step 6 : Reviewing what's happened : did the change occur as planned?
