In the vast majority of churches, the potential ministry of
the body of church members is an untapped reservoir. Releasing that potential is a
challenge for Christian leaders in an effective way. Yet we are challenged by the way that
Jesus took twelve completely untrained disciples and developed them within a few years to
become the foundation of the church.
Leading people into deeper ministries and commitment is at times difficult, and nearly
always time-consuming. This short guide offers a structured three-stage process to help
leaders develop the ministry of church members. This process starts with individual church
members identifying the gifts God has given them, and thinking and
praying through the service and ministry to which He may be calling them. This uses a self-completion questionnaire The second stage
of the process allows the leader to set individual gifts and service in the context of the
broader church. The final stage of the process outlines the 'Step
Plan' - a structured way of working with individuals to develop their ministries with
personalised plans for training and broadening of experience.
