A Cycle of Prayer
|
A cycle of prayer can ensure that all elements
of the vision process are prayed for systematically, and can give individuals greater
insight into the prayer needs of their church. |
Here is one suggested twelve month cycle of prayer to
support the vision process. The allocation of topics to the different months will need to
be amended to fit the local situation, as will the balance of prayer between the various
elements. However, two things are important :
- That the complete range of prayer needs are covered in a systematic way.
- That specific prayer needs are shared with the praying community.
Topics may come up two or three times during the year. As they do, information provided on
the specific prayer needs should develop as progress takes place.
January - For the year's priorities - and for the
necessary resources and finance to carry them out. For re-dedication to God's work.
February - For those in formal leadership positions,
ordained and lay - including those leading the various ministries within the church. For
spiritual blessing upon them, for energy and for their protection
March - For the major priorities that the church is
working on during the year - and for those leading that work. One might be selected in
depth, and detailed prayer needs shared, or it may be a more general review.
April - For vision development - that the church would
be able to establish where God might be leading them in one or two major areas. This
should also include vision sharing, and as such may be timed to fit the month of a church
council vision day or some similar event.
May - For the year's major priorities - and for those
leading the work. Again, providing specific, updated needs.
June - For further release of shared ministry within
the church - and for shared vision as God speaks to the church through different people.
July - For planning how the church might move forwards
towards its vision - for wisdom on the choices that need to be made.
August - For re-creation of all those in the church,
and for fresh energy. For time to reflect and share with one another.
September - For vision development, and for vision
sharing.
October - For the major priorities that the church is
working on during the year - and for those leading that work.
November - For the selection and planning of next
year's priorities
December - Reflecting on the past year and giving
thanks for all that has happened, and drawing together the spiritual insights.
